How to get parents of young children on a church council...
Here is an idea it works for my partner and I (not on a church board but another non-profit board).
Offer a seat in the pastoral council to the couple (or family if they have adolescents). The family makes a commitment to have 1 family member at each board meeting and to communicate well about meetings (read the minutes ask questions for clarification etc) and the board agrees to be mindful of not giving that position more weight than it deserves. Welcome the couple if they both want to be at meetings.
This style can work well for families where both parents work. It can work for families where people aren't especially committed to the parish council. It could also work for families or couples that have super busy lives
